The 2011 September 11 National Medals were produced by the United States Mint in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The medals are struck to collector proof quality and contain one ounce of .999 fine silver. To enhance the coin, it was subsequently 24KT Gold Plated. The medal has a smooth edge and a diameter of 1.598 inches. The obverse design features Lady Liberty holding the Lamp of Remembrance with beacons of light stretching skyward behind her and inscription ALWAYS REMEMBER and 2001-2011. The reverse design features an eagle against the backdrop of cascading water with inscription HONOR HOPE. Each medal comes in a coin capsule with coin display metal box, gift box and Certificate of Authenticity.
